Part of our very nature as human beings is to want more than what
nature has bestowed upon us be it money, beauty etc. Extending life,
not growing older or even reversing the aging process are all wants that
we all do wish for. Of course having money will definitely ease the
process of achieving the end products that we have wished for.
One point needs being made here: the achievement in the process of helping nature to make us better persons is not totally dependent on having money or seeking the help of the professionals out there. We can by following certain tips get the end results that would be much more beneficial to us in the long run.
These 8 tips are as follows:
1. Mediterranean diet
2. Eat like the peoples of Okinawa
3. Supplement your diet
4. Drink in moderation
5. Lose weight
6. No smoking
7. Exercise
8. Have adequate amount of sleep
1. Mediterranean diet
This includes the use of fish, whole grains, olive oil, vegetables and fruits. It has been found that users of the above have low obesity, low blood sugar, low blood pressure and fewer factors that increase the risks of heart disease and diabetes.
2. Eat like the peoples of Okinawa
The peoples of Okinawa are a people who live in that part of the world just outside Japan. They are strict eaters of foodstuff of colour: green and yellow vegetables. On average, they live to 100+ years. Their diets do ensure longevity as seen from evidence of members of younger generations who have broken with traditions by not eating their colours and as a result have much shorter life expectancies.
3. Supplement your diet
It is well documented that getting enough anti-oxidants: vitamin C and E and beta-carotene slow-down the aging process. The shortages of some supplements contribute negatively to the well-being of the body, e.g. (a) the shortage of vitamin B 12 results in dementia and memory loss. (b) calcium guards against osteoporosis and also helps in preventing strokes. Absence of that mineral results in both of those conditions.
4. Drink in moderation.
Many scientific findings have shown that moderate drinkers when compared with the non-moderate drinkers suffer less from heart diseases. Drinking alcohol to excess causes belly bulging, increase in blood pressure and increase in a host of other heart conditions.
5. Losing weight
Losing weight protects against diabetes, heart diseases and other life shortening conditions. By doing these two activities: 1. eating more fibre and 2. exercising regularly, one can have a longer life within a well-structured body.
6. No smoking
Research has shown that smoking is the cause of one in every two deaths due to heart disease, cancer and strokes. Smoking not only kills directly or indirectly but it also ages you taking years off your life. About half of all smokers die on average about 20 to 25 years before their time. Other diseases than the above that smoking is responsible for are chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, bone loss, depletion of vitamin C levels etc
7. Exercise
There is incontrovertible evidence that people who exercise, live longer than those who do not. Regular exercise results in lower risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some forms of cancer and depression. It even helps one to stay mentally fit in old age.
8. Have adequate amount of sleep
Good sleep lowers the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, mood disorders. Sleeping for less than five hours a night can and do result in premature death. You should go for at least eight hours of sleep.
You can consider the above-listed points as life-extending rules which if followed can help you to having a body that would look good, cope adequately with the travails of life and last for a very long time. Of course they are many more such rules that are on offer but the above will suffice for now.
